Biography

Wimar van Ommen is a Dutch national, born in Rome on June 20, 1994. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 2013, where he pursued a three-year Painting course, winning first prize in the Art-clash exhibition at Palazzo Vecchio, Florence. From the beginning of his studies, he explored both sculpture and painting. In 2017, he completed an internship at the Corsanini workshop in Carrara, where he delved into working with marble and semi-precious stones. He earned his bachelor's degree in Visual Arts in 2018 and subsequently enrolled in the sculpture course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.

In 2020, after graduating from the academy, he received a special jury mention for the Love-eye Sculpture Park competition in Tsingtao, China. In 2021, he took part in international symposiums of monumental sculpture across various Italian regions, including Tuscany, Piedmont, and Abruzzo. In 2022, he was invited to create a public artwork in white Carrara marble to commemorate the centennial of the city of Manta in Ecuador. In 2023, he collaborated with the Museo Casa Dei Pesci association to create a monumental marble sculpture for the underwater museum of Talamone. In 2024, he was chosen to participate in the XX International Sculpture Symposium in Fanano.

Currently, he works as a sculptor in Carrara and teaches Sculpture in Arezzo.
